Woundbiotech: Uncommon Wounds

19. Acute lipodermatosclerosis.

This presents as a painful and tender condition of the leg. It is frequently misdiagnosed as cellulitis or morphea. It represents a panniculitis associated with venous insufficiency. Ulcers can occur within the lesion, which becomes intensely fibrotic over time. The pain can respond dramatically to the anabolic steroid stanozolol.
